Flood Warning issued September 24 at 9:42PM MDT until September 25 at 3:30AM MDT by NWS Albuquerque NM * WHAT...Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected. * WHERE...Southern Curry County in east central New Mexico... Eastern De Baca County in east central New Mexico... Northwestern Roosevelt County in east central New Mexico... Northeastern Chaves County in southeastern New Mexico... * WHEN...Until 330 AM MDT. * IMPACTS...Flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations is imminent or occurring. Numerous roads remain closed due to flooding. Expect many areas of slow moving or standing water. It will take several hours for all the water from these storms to work through local drainage systems in urban areas. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - At 942 PM MDT, Doppler radar indicated heavy rain due to thunderstorms. Flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly in the warned area. Between 2 and 6 inches of rain have fallen. - Additional rainfall amounts up to 1 inch are possible in the warned area. - Some locations that will experience flooding include... Clovis, Texico, Melrose, Elida, Oasis State Park, Saint Vrain, Cannon Air Force Base, Ranchvale, Kenna and Floyd. - This includes Highway 60 between Mile Markers 361 and 397. - http://www.weather.gov/safety/flood Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles. Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the dangers of flooding.

In east central New Mexico, Curry County, De Baca County, Quay County and Roosevelt County. In southeast New Mexico, Chaves County Plains and Southwest Chaves County. * WHEN...Until 6 AM MDT Friday. * IMPACTS...Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. Creeks and streams may rise out of their banks. Flooding may occur in poor drainage and urban areas. Low-water crossings may be flooded. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - Rounds of showers and storms will continue through tonight. Rainfall rates up to 2 inches per hour will have the potential to produce rapid runoff. Soils are saturated from persistent rainfall over the past couple of days, further elevating the risk of flash flooding.
