THIS ALSO INCLUDES THE COTTONWOOD FIRE... * AFFECTED AREA...Fire Weather Zone 478 Salt Lake Desert, Fire Weather Zone 479 Wasatch Mountains, Fire Weather Zone 482 Western Uintah Basin, Fire Weather Zone 484 Tavaputs Plateau, Fire Weather Zone 488 Manti National Forest, Fire Weather Zone 489 San Rafael Swell, Fire Weather Zone 492 Central Utah West Desert and Fire Weather Zone 497 Mojave Desert. * WINDS...Southwest 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 45 mph. Winds may temporarily turn northwesterly and lighter on Friday night behind an initial cold front before returning to strong out of the southwest on Saturday. * RELATIVE HUMIDITY...As low as 7 percent with little overnight recovery Friday night. * IMPACTS...Critical fire weather conditions are expected. Any new fire starts or existing fires may spread rapidly. A Red Flag Warning means that critical fire weather conditions are either occurring now...or are imminent. A combination of strong winds...low relative humidity...and warm temperatures can contribute to extreme fire behavior.

Special Weather Statement issued June 25 at 5:54PM MDT by NWS Salt Lake City UT At 553 PM MDT, Doppler radar was tracking a strong thunderstorm near Utah Lake, or 12 miles northwest of Payson, moving northeast at 25 mph. HAZARD...Wind gusts up to 50 mph and penny size hail. SOURCE...Radar indicated. IMPACT...Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects. Minor damage to outdoor objects is possible. Locations impacted include... Provo, Payson, Orem, Spanish Fork, Pleasant Grove, Springville, American Fork, Eagle Mountain, Lindon, Mapleton, Salem, Vineyard, Brigham Young University, Palmyra, Benjamin, Lake Shore, Utah Lake, West Mountain, Saratoga Springs, and Genola. This storm will be capable of producing strong gusty winds on Utah Lake. This will lead to a sudden increase in waves and very choppy waters which will result in hazardous boating conditions. Boaters are urged to seek safe harbor if possible. This includes the following highways... Interstate 15 between mile markers 250 and 275. US Route 6 between mile markers 174 and 180. If outdoors, consider seeking shelter inside a building. Frequent cloud to ground lightning is occurring with this storm. Lightning can strike 10 miles away from a thunderstorm. Seek a safe shelter inside a building or vehicle.
