Turkey River at Garber affecting Clayton County. Turkey River at Elkader affecting Clayton County. ...The Flood Warning is extended for the following rivers in Iowa... Turkey River at Spillville affecting Winneshiek County. .Much of the Turkey River Basin from Garber upstream through Spillville received 2 to 5 inches of rain in the last 24 hours. The latest forecasts brings the crest at Elkader lower due to lower forecast precipitation amounts this evening as well as a slower routing from upstream locations. Much of the uncertainty in these river forecasts stems from uncertainty in how fast the water will flow downstream with time. * WHAT...Minor flooding is occurring and major flooding is forecast. * WHERE...Turkey River at Garber. * WHEN...Until Monday afternoon. * IMPACTS...At 26.0 feet, The earthen levee at Elkport is threatened, just upstream of Garber. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - At 2:15 PM CDT Saturday the stage was 19.9 feet. - Bankfull stage is 15.0 feet. - Recent Activity...The maximum river stage in the 24 hours ending at 2:15 PM CDT Saturday was 19.9 feet. - Forecast...The river is expected to rise to a crest of 24.9 feet just after midnight tonight. It will then fall below flood stage early Monday morning. - Flood stage is 17.0 feet. - Flood History...This crest compares to a previous crest of 24.8 feet on 02/09/1966. - http://www.weather.gov/safety/flood Motorists should not attempt to drive around barricades or drive cars through flooded areas. As this water continues to route through the system, additional rises on rivers and flooding of roadways, parks, and low elevation areas is likely over the next 6 to 12 hours. Additional rainfall amounts up to 2 inches if possible through this evening. * WHAT...Flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues to be possible. * WHERE...Portions of northeast Iowa, including the following counties, Clayton and Fayette and southwest Wisconsin, including the following counties, Crawford, Grant and Richland. * WHEN...Until 7 PM CDT this evening. * IMPACTS...Flooding may occur in poor drainage and urban areas.
