Flash Flood Warning issued July 16 at 6:32PM MST until July 16 at 8:15PM MST by NWS Tucson AZ At 632 PM MST, local law enforcement reported thunderstorms producing heavy rain across the warned area. Between 1 and 2.5 inches of rain have fallen. Flash flooding is already occurring. Santa Cruz River and washes have flow and will continue travel downstream in the warn area. HAZARD...Flash flooding caused by thunderstorms. SOURCE...Law enforcement reported. IMPACT...Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as other poor drainage and low-lying areas. Some locations that will experience flash flooding include... Tubac, Rio Rico, Nogales International Airport, Tumacacori, Amado and Kino Springs. This includes the following highways... Interstate 19 between mile markers 13 and 26. Route 82 between mile markers 4 and 8. This includes the following Flash Flood Prone Locations... Pendleton Dr at Sonoita Creek. This includes the following streams and drainages... Josephine Canyon, Sonoita Creek, Santa Cruz River and Potrero Creek. Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles. Be aware of your surroundings and do not drive on flooded roads.

Flood Watch issued July 16 at 2:36PM MST until July 17 at 5:00AM MST by NWS Tucson AZ * WHAT...Scattered showers and thunderstorms will be capable of producing very heavy rain in a short period of time. The excessive rain will lead to increased chances for flash flooding. The heavy rain will also lead to significant flow in area washes, creeks, and rivers. * WHERE...A portion of Southeast Arizona, including the following areas, Baboquivari Mountains, Catalina and Rincon Mountains, South Central Pinal County, Southeast Pinal County, Tohono O'odham Nation, Tucson Metro Area and Upper Santa Cruz River Valley/Altar Valley. * WHEN...Through late tonight. * IMPACTS...Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - Daytime heating will combine with a very moist atmosphere to produce scattered showers and thunderstorms which will be capable of very heavy rain. Storms will continue after sunset.
