Special Weather Statement issued September 18 at 9:34AM MDT by NWS Salt Lake City UT At 934 AM MDT, Doppler radar was tracking strong thunderstorms along a line extending from Little Cottonwood Canyon to near West Mountain. Movement was northeast at 30 mph. HAZARD...Wind gusts up to 50 mph and half inch hail. SOURCE...Radar indicated. IMPACT...Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects. Minor damage to outdoor objects is possible. Locations impacted include... Provo, Sandy, Murray, Payson, Park City, Coalville, Heber City, Orem, Lehi, Draper, Spanish Fork, Pleasant Grove, Cottonwood Heights, Springville, Midvale, Holladay, American Fork, Heber, Lindon, and Alpine. This storm will be capable of producing strong gusty winds on Utah Lake. This will lead to a sudden increase in waves and very choppy waters which will result in hazardous boating conditions. Boaters are urged to seek safe harbor if possible. This includes the following highways... Interstate 15 between mile markers 247 and 280. Interstate 80 in Utah between mile markers 134 and 165. US Route 6 between mile markers 150 and 152, between mile markers 156 and 158, and between mile markers 174 and 179. US Route 40 between mile markers 0 and 28. If outdoors, consider seeking shelter inside a building. Torrential rainfall is also occurring with these storms and may lead to localized flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flooded roadways.
