Flood Warning issued June 19 at 12:31AM EDT until June 19 at 6:00AM EDT by NWS Morristown TN * WHAT...Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected. * WHERE...A portion of southwest Virginia, including the following counties and independent city, City of Norton, Lee, Russell, Scott and Wise. * WHEN...Until 600 AM EDT. * IMPACTS...Flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations is imminent or occurring. Streams continue to rise due to excess runoff from earlier rainfall. Low-water crossings are inundated with water and may not be passable. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - At 1230 AM EDT, The public reported heavy rain in the warned area due to thunderstorms. Flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly. Between 3 and 4 inches of rain have fallen. - Additional rainfall amounts up to 0.5 inches are possible in the warned area. - Some locations that will experience flooding include... Norton, Wise, Jonesville, Big Stone Gap, Pennington Gap, Coeburn, Appalachia, St. Paul, Dungannon, St. Charles, Duffield, Jasper, Dryden, Pattonsville, Fort Blackmore and Castlewood. - http://www.weather.gov/safety/flood Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles. Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the dangers of flooding. In hilly terrain there are hundreds of low water crossings which are potentially dangerous in heavy rain. Do not attempt to cross flooded roads. Find an alternate route.

Flood Watch issued June 18 at 10:42PM EDT until June 19 at 2:00AM EDT by NWS Morristown TN * WHAT...Flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues to be possible. * WHERE...Portions of east Tennessee, including the following areas, Hancock, Hawkins, Johnson, Northwest Carter and Sullivan and southwest Virginia, including the following areas, Lee, Russell, Scott VA, Washington VA and Wise. * WHEN...Until 2 AM EDT Friday. * IMPACTS...Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - Scattered showers and storms may affect the watch area through shortly late tonight. Any additional heavy rains, especially in areas that saw repeated storms earlier tonight, may lead to isolated flash flooding. This will be especially true for portions of Lee, Scott, and Wise counties where area creeks and rivers are running high from heavy rains today. - http://www.weather.gov/safety/flood You should monitor later forecasts and be alert for possible Flood Warnings.
