severe thunderstorm warning in effect At 1:03 a.m. EDT, Environment Canada meteorologists are tracking a severe thunderstorm capable of producing very strong wind gusts, nickel to ping pong ball size hail and heavy rain. ### Heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads. Large hail can damage property and cause injury. Strong wind gusts can toss loose objects, damage weak buildings, break branches off trees and overturn large vehicles. Severe thunderstorm warnings are issued when imminent or occurring thunderstorms are likely to produce or are producing one or more of the following: large hail, damaging winds, torrential rainfall.

special weather statement in effect Heat event this week. A warm air mass will affect the area mid week. Daytime highs between 29 and 32 C followed by overnight lows near 20 C are expected. Humidex values will reach 40 beginning Tuesday afternoon. The heat and humidity will begin to ease Thursday evening. Watch out for heat-related impacts, such as heat exhaustion and/or heat stroke.
