Between 1 and 4 inches of rain have fallen. The expected rainfall rate is 1 to 3 inches in 1 hour. Additional rainfall amounts of 1 to 3 inches are possible in the warned area. Flash flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly. HAZARD...Life threatening flash flooding. Thunderstorms producing flash flooding. SOURCE...Radar. IMPACT...Life threatening flash flooding of creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses. Some locations that will experience flash flooding include... Lake Charles, Sulphur, Orange, Westlake, Vinton, Iowa, Starks, Moss Bluff, Lake Charles Regional Airport, Deweyville, Mauriceville, Buna, Hayes, Edgerly, Carlyss, Buhler, Lunita, Toomey, Forest Heights and Hartburg. Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles. Be aware of your surroundings and do not drive on flooded roads.

Special Weather Statement issued May 28 at 2:23PM CDT by NWS Lake Charles LA At 222 PM CDT, Doppler radar was tracking strong thunderstorms along a line extending from near Moss Bluff to near Hayes. Movement was northeast at 15 mph. HAZARD...Wind gusts up to 40 mph and penny size hail. SOURCE...Radar indicated. IMPACT...Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects. Minor damage to vegetation and outdoor objects is possible. Locations impacted include... Lake Charles, Westlake, Welsh, Iowa, Hayes, Moss Bluff, Buhler, Lebleu Settlement, Gillis, Lacassine, and Bell City. This includes the following highways... Interstate 10 in Louisiana between mile markers 29 and 51. Interstate 210 between mile markers 10 and 12. If outdoors, consider seeking shelter inside a building. Torrential rainfall is also occurring with these storms and may lead to localized flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flooded roadways. Frequent cloud to ground lightning is occurring with these storms. Lightning can strike 10 miles away from a thunderstorm. Seek a safe shelter inside a building or vehicle. A Severe Thunderstorm Watch remains in effect until 600 PM CDT for southwestern Louisiana.
