Extreme Heat Warning issued June 28 at 12:57AM CDT until June 30 at 9:00PM CDT by NWS Des Moines IA * WHAT...Dangerously hot conditions with heat index values above 100 expected. * WHERE...Much of Iowa. * WHEN...From 1 PM this afternoon to 9 PM CDT Tuesday. * IMPACTS...Heat related illnesses increase significantly during extreme heat and high humidity events. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Extreme heat will persist through much of next week, potentially including the 4th of July weekend. Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors. Take extra precautions when outside. Wear lightweight and loose fitting clothing. Try to limit strenuous activities to early morning or evening. Take action when you see symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke.
