Severe Thunderstorm Warning issued June 21 at 4:59AM CDT until June 21 at 5:15AM CDT by NWS Wichita KS At 459 AM CDT, severe thunderstorms were located along a line extending from 6 miles east of Douglass to 5 miles northwest of Winfield to 5 miles south of Wellington, moving southeast at 35 mph. HAZARD...60 mph wind gusts. SOURCE...Radar indicated. IMPACT...Expect damage to roofs, siding, and trees. Locations impacted include... Arkansas City, Winfield, Udall, Burden, Dexter, Atlanta, Geuda Springs, Rock, Cambridge, Winfield City Lake, and Strother Field Airport. For your protection move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a building. Continuous cloud to ground lightning is occurring with these storms. Move indoors immediately. Lightning is one of nature's leading killers. Remember, if you can hear thunder, you are close enough to be struck by lightning. Torrential rainfall is occurring with these storms, and may lead to flash flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flooded roadways.

Flood Warning issued June 21 at 3:16AM CDT until June 24 at 11:18AM CDT by NWS Wichita KS ...The National Weather Service in Wichita KS has issued a Flood Warning for the following rivers in Kansas... Ninnescah South Fork near Murdock affecting Kingman County. Ninnescah River near Peck affecting Sumner and Sedgwick Counties. Ninnescah River near Belle Plaine affecting Sumner County. Arkansas River at Arkansas City affecting Cowley County. * WHAT...Minor flooding is forecast. * WHERE...Arkansas River at Arkansas City. * WHEN...From Monday afternoon to late Wednesday morning. * IMPACTS...At 11.0 feet, Flooding of agricultural lands can be expected with bank overflows on west side of river. West Chestnut Avenue west of the river floods, expect road closure. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - At 3:00 AM CDT Sunday the stage was 6.7 feet. - Forecast...The river is expected to rise above flood stage tomorrow afternoon to a crest of 12.0 feet Tuesday morning. It will then fall below flood stage late Tuesday evening. - Flood stage is 11.0 feet. Do not drive into flooded areas or go around barricades. Nearly two feet of water will carry most vehicles away. In south central Kansas, Butler, Cowley, Harvey, Kingman, Reno, Sedgwick and Sumner. * WHEN...Until 1 PM CDT this afternoon. * IMPACTS...Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - Storms with very heavy rainfall will continue this morning across the area. Rainfall rates are expected to be around 2 inches per hour with the stronger storms. You should monitor later forecasts and be alert for possible Flood Warnings. Those living in areas prone to flooding should be prepared to take action should flooding develop.
