Flood Watch issued July 10 at 11:49PM EDT until July 12 at 8:00AM EDT by NWS Jackson KY * WHAT...Flash flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues to be possible. * WHERE...The Flood Watch includes the Kentucky counties of Bath, Elliott, Estill, Fleming, Menifee, Montgomery, Powell, Rowan, Johnson, Martin, Laurel, McCreary, Pulaski, Rockcastle, Wayne, Whitley, Bell, Breathitt, Clay, Floyd, Harlan, Jackson, Knott, Knox, Lee, Leslie, Letcher, Magoffin, Morgan, Owsley, Perry, Pike, and Wolfe. * WHEN...The Flood Watch is in effect until early Sunday morning. * IMPACTS...Excessive runoff may result in flooding of creeks, streams, and other low lying and flood prone locations. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - Repeated rounds of showers and thunderstorms producing locally heavy rainfall are expected into the weekend. Already wet soils in some areas will make those locations more susceptible to flooding. Monitor later forecasts and be prepared to take action should Flash Flood Warnings be issued.

Special Weather Statement issued July 11 at 4:18AM EDT by NWS Jackson KY At 417 AM EDT, Doppler radar was tracking a cluster of strong thunderstorms along a line extending from near Steubenville to near Sunnybrook. Movement was east at 30 mph. HAZARD...Wind gusts up to 40 mph. SOURCE...Radar indicated. IMPACT...Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects. Locations impacted include... Monticello, Whitley City, Burnside, Parmleysville, Great Meadows Campsites, Slavens, Susie, Sloans Valley, Parkers Lake, Barrier, Parnell, Gregory, Co- Operative, Bronston, Pine Knot, Slickford, Ritner, Denney, Kidder, and Powersburg. Torrential rainfall is also occurring with these storms and may lead to localized flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flooded roadways. Frequent cloud to ground lightning is occurring with these storms. Lightning can strike 10 miles away from a thunderstorm. Seek a safe shelter inside a building or vehicle.
