Flood Advisory issued September 17 at 4:41PM MDT until September 17 at 7:45PM MDT by NWS El Paso Tx/Santa Teresa NM * WHAT...Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected. * WHERE...West Central Hidalgo County in southwestern New Mexico... * WHEN...Until 745 PM MDT. * IMPACTS...Minor flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas. Water over roadways. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - At 441 PM MDT, Doppler radar indicated heavy rain due to thunderstorms. Minor flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly in the advisory area. Up to 0.5 inches of rain have fallen. - Some locations that will experience flooding include... Animas. - http://www.weather.gov/safety/flood Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles. Remain alert for flooding even in locations not receiving rain. Arroyos, streams, and rivers can become raging killer currents in a matter of minutes, even from distant rainfall.

Special Weather Statement issued September 17 at 4:46PM MDT by NWS El Paso Tx/Santa Teresa NM At 446 PM MDT, Doppler radar was tracking a strong thunderstorm 7 miles southeast of Rodeo, moving north at 10 mph. HAZARD...Wind gusts up to 45 mph and penny size hail. SOURCE...Radar indicated. IMPACT...Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects. Minor hail damage to vegetation is possible. Locations impacted include... Animas. If outdoors, consider seeking shelter inside a building. Torrential rainfall is also occurring with this storm and may lead to localized flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flooded roadways.
