Flood Watch issued September 26 at 5:26PM HST until September 27 at 6:00AM HST by NWS Honolulu HI Hurricane Nolo is now south-southwest of the Big Island and beginning to move more quickly off to the west. The possibility of heavy rain could lead to localized flooding over portions of the Big Island through tonight. * WHAT...Flash flooding caused by excessive rainfall is possible. * WHERE...The Big Island. * WHEN...Through late tonight. * IMPACTS...Flood prone roads and other low lying areas may be closed due to elevated runoff and overflowing streams. Urban areas may receive more significant flooding and property damage due to rapid runoff. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - The possibility remains for localized flooding over areas of the Big Island due to heavy rain from Hurricane Nolo to the south-southwest of the Big Island. Areas most at risk for flooding are the windward and southeast portions of the Big Island where the ground remains saturated after recent rains. You should monitor later forecasts and be prepared to take action should Flash Flood Warnings be issued.

Flood Advisory issued September 26 at 9:20PM HST until September 27 at 12:45AM HST by NWS Honolulu HI * WHAT...Flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues. * WHERE...The island of Hawaii in Hawaii County... * WHEN...Until 1245 AM HST. * IMPACTS...Minor flooding on roads, poor drainage areas, and in streams. Water over roadways. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - At 916 PM HST, emergency management reported that several roads in the Puna and Kau Districts remain closed due to flooding. Areas of moderate rain will continue to move into southeast portions of the Big Island over the next few hours with rainfall rates generally 0.5 to 1 inch per hour. - Some locations that will experience flooding include... Hawaiian Paradise Park, Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, Wood Valley, Volcano, Pahala, Glenwood, Punaluu Beach, Kawa Flats, Mountain View and Hawaiian Acres. Stay away from streams, drainage ditches and low lying areas prone to flooding. A Flood Watch is also in effect until 6 AM HST.

Wind Advisory issued September 26 at 5:04PM HST until September 27 at 6:00PM HST by NWS Honolulu HI * WHAT...East winds 25 to 35 mph with gusts to 55 mph, mainly over and downwind of terrain. * WHERE...Portions of Big Island, Maui, Molokai, Lanai, and Kahoolawe. * WHEN...Until 6 PM HST Sunday. * IMPACTS...Winds this strong can tear off shingles, knock down tree branches, blow away tents and awnings and make it difficult to steer, especially for drivers of high profile vehicles. Watch out for falling tree branches when walking or driving. Make sure tents and awnings are secure or take them down. Be prepared for power outages.

High Surf Advisory issued September 26 at 1:03PM HST until September 27 at 6:00PM HST by NWS Honolulu HI ...HIGH SURF WARNING IN EFFECT FOR SOUTHEAST FACING SHORES OF THE BIG ISLAND THROUGH SATURDAY NIGHT... ...HIGH SURF ADVISORY IN EFFECT FOR EAST FACING SHORES OF KAUAI, OAHU, MOLOKAI, MAUI, AND THE BIG ISLAND THROUGH SUNDAY... .Hurricane Nolo is generating swell that is producing warning level surf along southeast facing shores of the Big Island. This swell combined with strengthening trades is producing advisory level surf along east facing shores of the Big Island, Maui, Molokai, Oahu and Kauai that will maintain tonight and then begin to diminish on Sunday as Nolo moves westward away from the islands. * WHAT...For the High Surf Warning, dangerously large breaking waves of 12 to 16 feet. For the High Surf Advisory, large breaking waves of 9 to 12 feet. * WHERE...Southeast facing shores of the Big Island. * WHEN...For the High Surf Warning, until 6 AM HST Sunday. For the High Surf Advisory, from 6 AM to 6 PM HST Sunday. * IMPACTS...High. Expect very strong breaking waves and powerful currents. Waves breaking in channel entrances may make navigating the channels dangerous. Stay away from the shoreline along the affected coasts. Be prepared for road closures. Postpone entering or leaving channels affected by the high surf until the surf subsides.
