Special Weather Statement issued July 18 at 11:33PM EDT by NWS Raleigh NC At 1133 PM EDT, Doppler radar was tracking strong thunderstorms along a line extending from near Elm City to 8 miles south of Smithfield. Movement was east at 45 mph. HAZARD...Wind gusts up to 50 mph and half inch hail. SOURCE...Radar indicated. IMPACT...Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects. Minor hail damage to vegetation is possible. Locations impacted include... Goldsboro, Wilson, Elm City, Fremont, Pinetops, Kenly, Princeton, Lucama, Stantonsburg, and Black Creek. This includes NC Highway 264 between Mile Markers 43 and 56. If outdoors, consider seeking shelter inside a building. These thunderstorms are producing an excessive amount of deadly cloud to ground lightning. Seek shelter indoors and stay away from windows. If you cannot seek shelter indoors, an enclosed vehicle can provide safe shelter. Deadly lightning strikes can occur well ahead of an approaching storm, prior to the arrival of rain and wind.
