Wind Advisory issued September 24 at 2:07AM EDT until September 25 at 2:00AM EDT by NWS Newport/Morehead City NC * WHAT...Northeast winds 25 to 35 mph with gusts 40 to 50 mph. * WHERE...East Carteret and Mainland Dare Counties, and Hatteras Island, Northern Outer Banks, and Ocracoke Island. The strongest winds are expected for areas adjacent to bodies of water. * WHEN...Until 2 AM EDT Friday. * IMPACTS...Gusty winds will blow around unsecured objects. Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS...A strong coastal low will develop offshore east of the Carolinas and move north towards the New England coast by this weekend. A period of moderate to strong winds is expected to impact portions of the coast Thursday. These strong winds may last longer depending on the track of the low. Winds this strong can make driving difficult, especially for high profile vehicles. Use extra caution. Secure outdoor objects.

High Surf Advisory issued September 24 at 5:02AM EDT until September 26 at 8:00PM EDT by NWS Newport/Morehead City NC * WHAT...For the Coastal Flood Advisory, 1 to 3 feet of inundation above ground level in low-lying areas near shorelines and tidal waterways. For the High Surf Advisory, large breaking waves of 10 to 15 feet in the surf zone. For the Beach Hazards Statements, dangerous rip currents and large breaking waves in the surf zone. * WHERE...Northern Outer Banks. * WHEN...For the Coastal Flood Advisory, until 11 PM EDT Friday. For the High Surf Advisory, until 8 PM EDT Saturday. For the first Beach Hazards Statement, until 8 PM EDT this evening. For the second Beach Hazards Statement, from Thursday morning through Thursday evening. * IMPACTS...Up to 1 to 3 feet of inundation above ground level is possible in low-lying areas near shorelines and tidal waterways resulting in a low threat of property damage. Dune structure erosion is possible in vulnerable locations. Dangerous swimming and surfing conditions and localized beach erosion. Rip currents can sweep even the best swimmers away from shore into deeper water. Dangerous shore break can throw a swimmer or surfer head first into the bottom causing neck and back injuries. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS...The most likely time for strong rip currents to occur is a couple hours either side of low tide, which will occur around 12:12 PM Thursday. If travel is required, allow extra time as some roads may be closed. Do not drive around barricades or through water of unknown depth. Take the necessary actions to protect flood-prone property. Swimmers should remain out of the water due to dangerous surf conditions.
