Special Weather Statement issued September 20 at 3:10AM EDT by NWS Charleston WV At 310 AM EDT, Doppler radar was tracking strong thunderstorms along a line extending from near Salem to near Cedar Creek State Park to 8 miles south of Spencer. Movement was east at 30 mph. HAZARD...Wind gusts up to 40 mph. SOURCE...Radar indicated. IMPACT...Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects. Locations impacted include... Clarksburg, Buckhannon, Grafton, Weston, Philippi, Glenville, Sutton, Bridgeport, Shinnston, Stonewood, Nutter Fort, Salem, Gassaway, Lumberport, Anmoore, Jackson Mill, Arnoldsburg, Cedar Creek State Park, Stonewall Jackson, and Big Otter. This includes the following highways... Interstate 79 between mile markers 39 and 55, and between mile markers 60 and 128. Route 50 in West Virginia between mile markers 60 and 82. Route 33 between mile markers 1 and 17. If outdoors, consider seeking shelter inside a building. Torrential rainfall is also occurring with these storms and may lead to localized flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flooded roadways. In hilly terrain there are hundreds of low water crossings which are potentially dangerous in heavy rain. Do not attempt to travel across flooded roads. Find alternate routes. It takes only a few inches of swiftly flowing water to carry vehicles away.
