Air Quality Alert issued July 15 at 1:12PM EDT by NWS Northern Indiana The officials at the Indiana Department of Environmental Management have declared an Air Quality Action Day, in effect for Thursday, July 16th. An Air Quality Action Day for Ozone and PM 2.5 has been issued. Fine particulate matter due to wildfire smoke is expected to be in the Unhealthy range and ozone levels are expected to be in the Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups range. Active children and adults, and people with respiratory disease, such as asthma should limit prolonged outdoor exposure. Here are some recommended actions that the public can take: * Carpool or use public transportation. * Staying indoors whenever possible. * Monitor indoor air quality by keeping air circulating and checking on indoor filtration systems. * Avoid using the drive-through and combine errands into one trip. * Avoid refueling your vehicle or using gasoline-powered lawn equipment until after 7pm. * Turn off your engine when idling for more than 30 seconds. * Conserve energy by turning off lights or setting the air conditioner to 75 degrees or above. Heat Advisory issued July 15 at 1:06PM EDT until July 15 at 8:00PM EDT by NWS Northern Indiana * WHAT...Heat index values between 100 and 104. * WHERE...Portions of northern Indiana, southwest Michigan, and northwest Ohio. * WHEN...Until 8 PM EDT /7 PM CDT/ this evening. * IMPACTS...Hot temperatures and high humidity may cause heat illnesses. Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors. Take extra precautions when outside. Wear lightweight and loose fitting clothing. Try to limit strenuous activities to early morning or evening. Take action when you see symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke.
